Save the Date! 11.24.13

When the world is your oyster and you have to pick just ONE save the date, life can be hard. I mean how do you choose? Between Pinterest, Etsy, and your own creativity, it can be very tough to decide on just one. Truthfully, I had Andrew and I's save the date picked out for over a year before we were even engaged. I can say that I did get tempted by all the other ones, but Andrew wanted this one so it became a much simpler decision. We both love scratcher cards and we have many fond memories of doing them together, Andrew lived in Reno for two years, and I love hearts. What more could we ask to be included in one single save the date?!? I got this idea from Ms. Martha Stewart herself. I loved the idea, but let me tell you, there were some errors with the directions.

I have found a easier, full proof way that this scratch-off save the date can work. I had printed it all out, got everything ready, painted the freezer paper and tape, went to cut/punch out my first heart, and it didn't work. You could kind of punch it out, but when you went to peel off the tape from the freezer paper, it didn't come off! How was I going to complete something I already started when I had no idea how to make this work! I put my thinking cap on and I brainstormed an idea! I went to Office Max and bought clear Avery Sticker Project Paper! I painted that, let it dry and wah-lah I could take the backing off the clear painted side! When I punched out the hearts, because of the label paper, it would actually scrunch up the shape so I put a piece of card stock over the label and then punched. That seemed to work so much better. I did spend my time perfecting each heart after I punched them out with scissors, but that is the perfectionist in me! I also found the hearts sometimes were a little sticky, I am not sure if it was because of too much dish washing soap, if it was the fact that I used a special soft touch kind of liquid dish washing soap, or if that is how this just is. Somebody could definitely try not using the soft touch dish washing soap and let me know!

What You'll Need:
  • White Card Stock
  • Metallic Acrylic Paint
  • Avery Clear Sticker Project Paper
  • Liquid Dish washing Soap
  • Foam Brush
  • Heart Punch
  • Pennies
  • Envelopes
  • Scissors (optional)
  • Craft Knife
So here are photos of me making the save the dates!

The font used on the envelope is Channel for the name and Throw My Hands Up in the Air for the address. I did a space  in between each letter and inserted bullets in between the zips. (Sorry I couldn't put the whole address on there, I want my friends and family to still like me!)
